Rock Creek Pack Station pack trip operating under permit on the Inyo National Forest

If you love horses, fly-fishing—or the idea of learning to fly-fish— and camping under the stars, this is the trip for you! This four day, three-night adventure in the John Muir wilderness brings together the best of what this iconic mountain range has to offer. We’ll ride horses deep into the heart of the Inyo National Forest with a pack train of mules carrying all the gear needed to have an adventure worthy of a story. We’ll also be fly-fishing in a different high alpine lake each day, ensuring great fishing for beginners and experienced guests alike and eating delicious meals by the campfire at night with Darling workshops. This incredible trip will give you the chance to appreciate the vast beauty that makes the Sierras so legendary.

COST: $1,750 all-inclusive (excludes airfare to Los Angeles). Balance due 30 days before departure.

DIFFICULTY: Beginner, no prior experience required

THE ITINERARY

Day 1

  • 10 a.m. morning departure from Los Angeles to the Eastern Sierra
  • Optional natural hot spring dip in Owens Valley
  • Drive to lodging and check in
  • Opening Darling Dinner

Day 2

  • Short drive to pack station
  • Breakfast and orientation for horse riding
  • Day horse ride over Mono Pass to Mono Creek
  • Lunch on the trail
  • Arrive at camp and settle in and explore
  • Free time for fishing and relaxing 
  • Dinner
  • Darling workshop #1
  • Campfire time

Day 3

  • Breakfast
  • Short ride to alpine lake for fishing and relaxing
  • Darling workshop #2
  • Ride back to camp
  • Free Time
  • Dinner
